Hilde Honerud's exhibition entitled It is a light which objectifies everything and confirms nothing (part two) is comprised of photographs taken last year during several visits to the Moria refugee camp on the island of Lesvos, in Greece.
Honerud's work feels like journalism, apparently delivered as a documentary, but her motifs are far from classic catastrophe photojournalism. It is a light which objectifies everything and confirms nothing (part two) was shown in Norway at the Rake exhibition space in 2018. The exhibition explores the realities of refugee and asylum life through Honerud's approach to visual language. In Part Two, being shown at the Buskerud art center these days, Honerud shows refugees and immigrants involved in sporting activities hosted by the organization Yoga and Sports for Refugees.
Honerud participated in different activities during her stays like yoga, swimming, wrestling, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, kickboxing, parkour, bodybuilding and boxing.
Moria is probably Europe's worst refugee camp, housing between 6000 and 12000 refugees depending on the seasonal influx. The camp was designed for 3000 inhabitants.
Yoga and Sports for Refugees was founded during the Mediterranean humanitarian crisis. The organization uses sports to help people find dignity and meaning in difficult times, and to stimulate the mental and physical strength required to survive the monotony, frustration and stagnation of their present situation.
Honerud associates contemplative, political and ordinary views into stories and explores the complex relationship between form and content. Honerud uses a formal approach to investigate how precarious political and social conditions are experienced in daily life which is recognisable for all of us. Her photographs are an attempt to integrate daily life with intimacy and proximity, hoping to show the simplicity and the grandness of life itself.
The exhibition received financial support from Fritt Ord, the Norwegian Photographic Fund and regional project funds for visual artists.

Arbeidene til Honerud ligger tett på en journalistisk, dokumentarisk stil, men motivene er langt unna det klassiske katastrofefotografiet. I (part two), som vises på Buskerud Kunstsenter, følger hun flyktninger og migranter som driver med idrett gjennom organisasjonen Yoga and Sports for Refugees.
Under oppholdene har Honerud deltatt på ulike aktiviteter som yoga, svømming, bryting, muay thai, kung fu, kick-boksing, parkour, bodybuilding og boksing.
Moria Camp er mest sannsynlig Europas verste flyktningleir og huser 6-12 000 avhengig av tilstrømmingen, leiren er dimensjonert for 3000.
Yoga and Sports for Refugees oppsto under den humanitære krisen i Middelhavet. Organisasjonen bruker idrett for å hjelpe folk å finne verdighet og mening, og den mentale og fysiske styrken som kreves for å gjennomgå monotonien, frustrasjonen og stagnasjonen i deres nåværende situasjon.
Honerud knytter det funderende, politiske og ordinære sammen til en fortelling og undersøker det komplekse forholdet mellom form og innhold. Gjennom en formal tilnærming, ønsker Honerud å undersøke hvordan prekære politiske og sosiale forhold kan oppleves gjennom det hverdagslige og gjenkjennelige. Gjennom sine fotografier forsøker hun å smelte sammen våre liv gjennom dagligliv og nærhet, og på den måten trekker hun frem både det lille og det store livet.
